The lies, oh the lies.

It was a typical weekday afternoon. I was at home watching a little CNBC when I read a forward from Thinny. Thin's forwarded message was info regarding the close of Darwins Restaurant and Bar in fabulous Syracuse, NY. I sat stunned with disbelief. Many thoughts ran through my head... Was this message true? Should we make a pilgrimage to say goodbye and fare-the-well? Have a coolada and poor a little out for the BOC community? Should we burn the evidence (Dave and I would have some explaining to do)? Should I call Crystal and Shane? Where are Gabe's teeth?
I had to track down the root of this rumor. Just remember kids, all paths lead to Wachter. Jay said he talked to 'a friend' at Larry's and he said Dirk sold D-wins and it was closing in May.
I tried to call Dirk immediately. I reached his law office downtown but he wasn't there.
Then I remembered, Lustig is THE turbo-jew. He has the resources to figure out this potentially delicate situation. One call to the fast-talking iBanker and the wheels to solve this mystery would be in motion. And they were.
It took no more than 36 minutes for Lustig to call me back. He called Clark Gilbert (Brendan's little brother) the current manager of D-wins. Clark set the record straight. Dirk is still the owner of Darwins and they are busier than ever. No plans to sell the Bar but (sad to say) Dirk did change the combo to the safe.

Darwins, our home and mother to Blackout City and its surrounding areas, will survive. Perhaps a 'no reason' pilgrimage is still in order? After all, I haven't been back since I was banned from Onondaga County in 2003 for:
- throwing a full pint glass of Scotch at an unsuspecting 'patron' of Darwins
- making Roofie Cooladas in a closed establishment on a Monday evening and drinking them on S. Crouse (Sirhal's fault)
- taking roadies into Faegan's only to discover "they don't serve bottled beers" there
- stabbing that coke-hoarding midget in the bathroom at Uncle Larry's (sorry 'bout that Crystal)

Sorry for the long message, but I had to set the record straight.

P.S. I am moving to NYC sometime in March... anyone for cocktails?
