Appetite for Destruction
Rocks Off Presents: Appetite for Destruction
Fri June 16; Boarding: 10pm, Departure: 11pm
Skyport Marina: 23rd St, at the FDR
$25 at RocksOffEvents.com
Welcome to the jungle! G&R tribute band Appetite for Destruction is returning to NYC. And because they rock too hard for dry land, they'll be playing on a boat.
This is a much bigger event than the Slash-less engagement "Fat Axl" just closed at the Hammerstein. A taste of the action:
The Band: AfD is so disturbingly spot-on they even perform the borrowed intros G&R used to segue into their own material live -- e.g., a few strains of Grand Funk Railroad leading into "Sweet Child O' Mine". For this show, they'll burn through 25 tunes, likely opening with "Nightrain" and closing with "Paradise City". Their one inauthentic note: unlike F'Axl, lead singer Bill Shores won't storm offstage prematurely -- a good thing, since he'd drown.
The Cruise: You'll be headbanging aboard the Half Moon, a double-decker with a full bar below and a stage up top. The trip spans three hours, steaming down the East River under the Williamsburg, Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges, with spectacular views of the Statue of Liberty -- whose torch of freedom will be burning for an encore of "Mr. Brownstone".
Tickets are already on sale, and since capacity's obviously limited we suggest ordering now, before this Metal Ship sets sail and you're stuck watching a landlubber has-been instead of this brilliant, floating knockoff.
============================
GAW sent this to me and I just wanted to say that G 'n R cover bands are a GREAT time. I think we should all go, the tixs are cheap, we can pregame and save money on booze while on the boat. Let me know what people are thinking and I'll get some tickets.

A quick shout out
To Danica and the girl's party Saturday night. For allowing a drunken group of fools who brought a 12 pack of donuts instead of beer into the party. Snappy's attempt at eating a Boston Creme donut in one bite was classic. The donuts proved more popular at Whiskey River, and the jelly-filled delicacy inspired a 3am brunch session with a round of bloodies and eggs benny at Moonstruck Diner.

Summer Concert Series
after a chance encounter with mixer and nuedo this past weekend and a hearty discussion over some tasty blue moons, car bombs, and arepas i decided to look into this journey/def leppard tour a little more. and for those of you who don't know what an arepa is, it's two very tasty pieces of cornbread that for no particular reason at all are fried on a dirty grill at a street fair and then are slapped together with a piece of mozzarella cheese in between. oh yea, then let it sit on this dirty grill for, oh about 6-8 hours, and then have a couple of drunk kids bargain the leftovers for no price at all. no sides, no sauces, just dry cornbread and low quality mozzarella soaking in smog for an afternoon. simply delectable. anywho, back to the matter at hand.
checking the website for def leppard i found the answer to one of the important questions. journey opens the show and def leppard rocks the night away. secondly, the mohegan sun date on wed the 28th is miracously sold out. lots of fans up here in CT. the jones beach show on saturday june 24th would be perfect, except that i will be in miami that weekend and i really can't miss this show. they are playing in Atlantic City at the Borgata on July 1st, and 4th of july and gambling and drinking go great with journey and def leppard but $100 tickets are a bit steep. they've also added some additional shows at the end of the summer. there's one at saratoga, ny on sat sept 16th or boston on sat sept 23rd. those tickets haven't gone on sale yet but judging from the jones beach tickets they are around $35. some other shows at jones beach this summer....
